The Korean esports team roster for the 2018 Jakarta Palembang Asian Games has been announced.
The roster was revealed on the 31st of May (KST), and the members are as follows: Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, Go “Score” Dong-bin, Han “Peanut” Wang-ho, Kim “Kiin” Gi-in, Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk and Jo “CoreJJ” Yong-in.
The head coach for the League of Legends team is Choi “Edgar” Woo-beom; according to the recent international and national competitions, the strategy committee picked Edgar as the head coach. As for the players, there were many opinions; after talking with each team, they decided on these six members.
Kiin was picked first out of the many top laners. Although he’s a rookie, he has stable laning and a varied champion pool. In the jungle, Score was selected since he’s a jungler who can create synergy with any type of player and Peanut was also picked thanks to his reputation as Korea’s best jungler.
In the mid lane, Korea’s superstar Faker was called upon. The bottom lane was a big issue. They prioritized picking the bottom lane as a duo. Many duos were debated, but Ruler and CoreJJ were picked in the end.
The 2018 Jakarta Palembang Asian Games will hold preliminary rounds in China during early June. For League of Legends, there will be three slots for the East Asian region in the main event. From Southeast Asia, South Asia, Central Asia, and West Asia, only one slot will be given. Indonesia secured a spot as the host.
Meanwhile, the leagues that have conflicting schedules with the Asian Games will be rescheduled. Riot Games will be announcing the schedule for the LCK Summer Split on the 5th of June.
