NiP is entering League of Legends---again.
Ninjas in Pyjamas is heading overseas.
The legendary Swedish esports organization is merging with Chinese company ESV5, according to a report by Reuters.
The new entity created by this merger could be listed in the American NASDAQ by the end of the year, making it the first esports team to feature in the New York-based stock exchange.
For 2021, the companies project combined revenue of more than 400 million yuan ($61.70 million), according to a "source with direct knowledge on that matter," Reuters reports.
Victory Five, who are currently 17th with a 0-17 record in the LPL---China's top division League of Legends league---will be rebranded to Ninjas in Pyjamas for the 2022 season. This will be the first time NiP has participated in the game since a short stint in the LEC and European Masters in 2018.
NiP is most notable for being a powerhouse in Counter-Strike, while ESV5 owns two teams in the LPL, including Victory Five and Ultra Prime (previously known as eStar)---both based in Wuhan, China.
NiP and ESV5 agreed to a deal via an equity swap, according to a joint statement by the companies.
Due to regulations set by Riot Games, V5 will re-name to NiP starting in the 2022 LPL Summer Split. Ultra Prime will continue to sport the same name.
NiP currently competes in various esports titles, including VALORANT, Rainbow Six Siege, and FIFA. This new deal will mark the return of NiP to the League of Legends professional scene.
Aside from owning two teams in the LPL, ESV5 is responsible for several venues: The LPL Shenzhen home venue for V5 and the KPL Wuhan home venue for Ultra Prime. The organization also owns the Chinese streaming platform DouYu.
