In an interview with SPORT1′s Marco Gnyp, Misfits’ midlaner Tristan “PowerOfEvil” Schrage spoke about the difficult year he had with Origen, his expectations for the upcoming EU LCS Spring Split, and what he thinks about the recent ban changes.
“I think these changes (from six to ten bans) are very good. There are at the moment simply too many overpowered champions. Normally the pick-ban phase is only there to take these champions from the game,” said the player, before continuing: “therefore, there was normally only one target ban. Now it is going to be possible to target ban against certain opponents, or to focus a lane.”
Talking about last year with Origen, despite the tough times the player and the rest of his team faced, being for instance forced to play at the Promotion Tournament to secure the organization’s spot at this year’s Spring Split, PowerOfEvil doesn’t consider it was a “wasted year”:
“I can’t say that the year was wasted, as I won for the first time an IEM event. To be able to hold up the trophy, it was a big success for me. With the Unicorns of Love we were successful as well, but it wasn’t never enough to win a title. In addition, with Origen I had the chance to play at my biggest event so far, IEM Katowice. Was great to experience that all. In general, you can never say that a split was wasted time because you have learned so much. My intention, when I joined Origen, was to learn as much as possible from the veterans in the team because they all have a lot of experience and understand a lot of the game, and I’m sure I’ve taken a lot of that to Misfits.”
About his new team, PowerOfEvil also shared some words, especially about the team’s new jungler, Lee “KaKAO” Byung-kwon:
“Outside the game he is really funny. His English wasn’t good, but he is taking lessons to improve. In my opinion, he learns quickly, his English has swiftly become very good. Right now, I can not think of anything he could not immediately say in-game. In the game itself, he is very smart. He knows a lot and is always at the right time in the right place, and he does not just die in the opponent’s jungle because he risked a lot. He is the opposite of a “coin-flip player”, who is sometimes very good and sometimes very bad. KaKAO is consistently good.
When asked whether he feels like a “mentor” – considering he and KaKAO are the most experienced players in Misfits’ line-up, PowerOfEvil was honest: “we need to see first how the first games on stage will go. It is not always easy starting to perform on stage. You can get nervous in the first two or three games. The guys are however all very self-confident. I am confident that with me and with KaKAO, with our experience, we should get these problems under control in case they happen”
