really depends on the company and the popularity of the group. obviously they are micromanaged as fuck as new groups (<5yrs) the kpop singers I know are older 25+ and do whatever they want unless they're preparing/promoting an album. they choose their own work or just fuck around if they choose to

i am korean american didn't work on any sm or kpop videos actually the work I did was for korean hip hop labels i guess I was a creative director; I made/pitched video concepts, sourced talent, and supervised overall image/details etc. would see them in the office sometimes, never talked to them. I saw him a couple of times, never talked to him though. hung out with some of the snsd girls through mutual friends.
i used to see gd and top a lot when they were trainees because they were friends of friends. wish I made friends with them, thought they would flop.

i don't know full story, but i do know she was a trainee and moved around because the agencies she was with went bankrupt and she was traded etc before she went to sm.
never knew she had a sister until f(x), krystal didnt go to my school

not sure on details of her casting story, but i did go to school with her

she had to transfer sophomore year or so because we had a policy against celebrity trainees
