Chihayafuru 2

An exhibition of about 100 reproduced drawings from the popular manga “Chihayafuru” is currently being held in the special exhibition room of the Kyodo No Mori Fuchu City Museum in Fuchu, Tokyo.

Fuchu is the setting of the manga, which is about students competing in the karuta card game. The exhibition, which runs until Dec. 6, is titled “Chihayafuru in Fuchu.”

The pages chosen for the exhibition include famous scenes from the manga as well as scenes featuring places in Fuchu. The exhibition is split into two periods: Pictures on display will change when the first period ends on Nov. 23, and the second period is from Nov. 25 to Dec. 6.

At the venue, visitors can receive a free map of places in Fuchu that appear in the manga.

The museum is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is closed on Nov. 24 and 30. Admission is ¥200 for adults, ¥100 for children aged from 4 to middle school age and free for children aged under 4. For more information, call the city’s economy and tourism department at (042) 335-4095.

FUKUI — Japan Post Co.’s Hokuriku branch office in Kanazawa, in cooperation with the city of Awara in Fukui Prefecture, has issued 1,000 limited sets of 10 original postage stamps and two postcards with pictures from the manga “Chihayafuru.”

The set of ¥52 stamps and postcards is priced at ¥1,500. One of the pictures shows main characters from the manga in karuta-playing poses in the Kanaz Forest of Creation in Awara with autumn leaves of maple and gingko trees fluttering around them. The characters include the heroine, Chihaya Ayase, and her friend, Arata Wataya, who was born in Awara.

The stamp-postcard sets are available at 60 post offices in part of Fukui and five municipalities in the prefecture: Awara, Sakai, Ono, Katsuyama and Eiheiji.
