Es una secuela, a su manera... pero es una secuela.
Twisters is not a remake or reboot of the original Twister, but a standalone sequel. The film features a new generation of storm chasers and an impressive supporting cast. While it can be enjoyed without seeing the original, Twisters will have callbacks to the '90s classic that fans will appreciate.
In 2020, Universal Pictures announced a remake of the 1996 disaster film Twister. However, the team behind the upcoming 2024 movie, Twisters, has clarified the project's connection to the original film. Written by Michael Crichton (Jurassic Park), Twister centers on Jo Harding (Helen Hunt), a woman who becomes obsessed with chasing storms after an F5 tornado kills her father. Several decades after the incident that both inspired and devastated Jo, the tornado-obsessed meteorologist leads a team dedicated to revolutionizing their field. Jo is also joined by her estranged husband Bill (Bill Paxton), an ex-storm-chaser-turned-TV-weatherman.
Twister went on to become one of the highest-grossing movies of 1996, reeling in $495.7 million at the box office. For its incredible sound design and impressive visual effects, the movie earned two Academy Award nominations. Now, Twisters is the current-day chapter of the 1996 blockbuster. Set to be released in theaters on July 19, 2024, Twisters was delayed due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. In the wake of Twisters' first trailer dropping, fans of the original movie were left wondering about the new movie's connection to the '90s classic.
Despite Universal Pictures' previous plan, Twisters is not a remake of Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton's Twister.
