Square Enix announced its previously teased PlayStation 4 project “Project Code Z” to be Spelunker Z during a Tokaigi 2015 reveal event.
The game, in development at Tozai Games, will launch as a free-to-play download in Japan on March 19. It will feature online multiplayer with up to six players, character customization, and more. Pets are a new addition—there are multiple kinds, each with their own unique abilities. Players can also collect “Lithographic Seeds,” which let you acquire items to strengthen your otherwise weak Spelunker. Given this is free-to-play, there will be some paid items, as well.
