x cierto la respuesta al tema de CLG por parte de wickd, podemos criticarlo como player pero da bastante en el clavo de lo que le ha pasado a CLG;
"This week, people have talked a lot about CLG and MonteCristo. I think it’s a good time to share my thoughts with you.
MonteCristo is one of the most popular non player personalities in our community. That helped him shield his players from a lot of criticism, which allowed them to focus on practicing instead of worrying about the community bashing them - all players worry about that, even though we shouldn’t.
The main reason why he’s been able to shield them to that extent is because most of the e-sport industry members are good friends, and they all work together. This friendship is sometimes not a great thing because it led CLG to be hyped as one of the best NA teams, even though they currently don’t perform at their best level, the level we were led to expect from them.
The effectiveness of MonteCristo's coaching has been brought up recently in light of CLG's performance.
Honestly, I don’t think anyone can tell now who is a good or a bad coach, the industry is too young, and we don’t have any experienced League coach in Europe or North America. Some organizations have coaches coming from other games, but skill doesn’t always transfer and the stakes in lol pro scene are on a different scale from older games.
Since coaches are a fairly new phenomenon in western league of legends, many often lack the experience and the knowledge to coach effectively. Its the organizations and the players responsibility to highlight what they want from the coach and help the coach in reaching that goal
Finding a good coach is a problem because of the lack of budget dedicated to coaches in most organizations, without the required money, it is harder to have someone dedicate all of their time to help the players when there is little money. That’s the reason why the like of Monte have multiple jobs (casting, coaching, talk shows).
The only thing that makes me question Monte as a coach happened during their trip to Korea.
We all know CLG went to Korea because Seraph had to go back there because of his visa problem, and because the team thought it would give them the best chances to qualify for Worlds and to win playoffs. Bootcamping in the strongest region is always a good idea, but I have to question some things about that camp.
To me, a bootcamp is supposed to let the players focus 100% on practicing, by removing all distractions. During this trip, the players had multiple events that had them out of the house or at least out of playing. They have made two twenty minutes video interviews which probably took hours to make. They went to OGN, watching the tournament instead of watching it from home. They went to the SC2 Pro League finals. They made various other interviews, even staying with the interviewer for a while (which takes time off practice). That’s the reason why we need strong coaches in League who can forbid players from doing things that would reduce their practice time.
I also think that they did not focus as much as they could during practice, considering that we have pictures of CLG players browsing, or playing other games during champion select, instead of already being focused 100% on pick and bans and winning the game.
Not everything they made in Korea was bad though, it was obviously the best location to go to for training, and the dates (1st to 18th) were well picked so that they’d have time to fix jetlag before playing in North America. Had they had another result against Curse, we would all praise them.
I think that the bootcamp was meant by CLG to be the perfect practice environment for their players. From what happened it seems that they also took the opportunity to work on their fanbase in Korea and ended up with players having more distractions than we would expect them having at home.
It is a shame because we have seen with that bootcamp how much money CLG was willing to spend to offer their players the best. I know that most other organizations would not use that much money to improve their players’ chances of qualifying."
