Legends aren’t born, they are created by hard work and dedication. One of Fnatic’s biggest legacies is Bora “Yellowstar” Kim, a player who’s helped shape not only Fnatic, but Western League of Legends eSports over the past six years. His in-game leadership has been praised by his teammates and is honored by numerous achievements and MVP awards. Even outside Summoner’s Rift, Yellowstar found ways to inspire players and fans alike.
It’s hard to imagine an LCS Split without Yellowstar but today we are sad to announce Bora’s retirement from competitive League of Legends after 6 incredible seasons and 3.5 years with Fnatic.
It was at the start of the first LCS season that Bora joined Fnatic as an AD Carry, after already qualifying for two World Championships previously under the banners of Against All Authority and SK Gaming. With Fnatic, Yellowstar won the first ever LCS Spring Split with a 22-6 record, defeating top tier teams such as Gambit and EG during playoffs.
In the Summer Split of 2013, Bora made the decision to leave his AD Carry days behind and change to the role of support. The change would define his career in the most positive of ways and qualifying for his third World Championship was only the beginning.
2014 saw the birth of one the most successful bot lanes in LCS history as Rekkles and Yellowstar joined forces. Fnatic picked up a 3rd and 4th LCS title, qualifying for Worlds once more. However, it wasn’t until the year after that Bora came before the biggest challenge of his career, as he took it upon himself to help rebuild the team from the ground up.
Bora got most definitely rewarded for his efforts as Fnatic took the 2015 Summer Split by storm, winning each and every one of their games for a perfect 18-0 split. It’s a record that still holds true and most likely will for a very long time to come. The MVP of the split award with Bora’s name on it was the cherry on top, commemorating his performance in- and outside of the game.
Seven LCS finals, five LCS titles, five World Championships, incredible Ashe arrows and penta-kill steals,.. Listing every incredible moment of Bora’s career is an impossible feat but we hope you’ll join us reliving some of the highlights below!
