#5 #7 Una entrevista con Michael K. Williams.
You’ve done a few projects with HBO, from The Wire to Boardwalk Empire to The Night Of, which were all excellent projects, and now you’ll be doing Lovecraft Country with them, which also sounds like a really challenging story. What was the appeal of that project for you?
WILLIAMS: Oh, man, Lovecraft Country was appealing in a number of ways for me. One was going back home to HBO. That’s my house. I love working there. Secondly, it was my two new bosses. Come on, J.J. Abrams and Jordan Peele? It doesn’t get much better than that. Third, it was the crazy world that the show lives in, with H. P. Lovecraft, Jim Crow America, and monsters. I was like, “Sign me up! I’m all in!” I haven’t read all of the scripts yet. They’re still in development. But I’m excited, just for the premise alone, as to what they’re gonna be cranking out.
When I recently spoke to Win Rosenfeld, the president for Monkeypaw Productions, he told me that it’s a TV series that will be absolutely unlike anything tha’s ever been on television before, so now I’m even more excited about it.
WILLIAMS: That’s what he said about Lovecraft? Wow! I can’t wait! I can’t wait to start reading.
Have you read the novel, or are you reading it while you’re waiting for the scripts?
WILLIAMS: I read Chapter 1. The scary thing about the book is that I don’t wanna get too locked into the book because it’s just based on it, so I want to leave my palette pretty clear and clean for the scripts. But I did get through the first chapter, which pretty much set up the pilot. I just didn’t wanna go too much further past that.
Have you been told much about the character that you’ll be playing?
WILLIAMS: No, I have not. Another reason why I don’t wanna read the book is because they could have something completely different for him. I wanna wait until I get the scripts because it’s just loosely based. It’s based on the world that H.P. Lovecraft created. That’s enough for me.
